Bradford Ink was contacted to help create the graphics for a very particular kind of custom card deck. The client serves as a local Judge, and wanted to inject his profession into one of his big passions – collected special, niche card decks for display and fun. We worked closely over the next few months to create many unique art pieces for this deck so that the end product was something that stood alone in its style and inspiration.
One of the challenges of this project was the incredibly intricate decorative linework and complex patterns required of classic card deck packaging. The illustrations were first hand drawn, then traced into vector and tweaked over multiple iterations until every line was where it needed to be.
3 main Box designs were created – a Standard box, a Limited Edition Box (shown), and a Suite Box that the Limited Edition could be placed inside (also shown).
The centerpiece of the Limited Edition box is the Lady Justice, drawn from scratch and posed on the card box holding her Scales of Sustice as well as a Sword of Judgement. Each box was printed on luxurious cardstock and sealed with a numbered sticker. A special Collector’s Edition Suite box was also available that featured a sealed set box in even thicker heavy gauge material.
