Butterflies

About

The Blue Morpho Butterfly, one of the Amazon rainforest’s most striking inhabitants, shimmers with iridescent colour as it rests among the trees. Sadly, like many rainforest species, it faces the threats of deforestation and climate change.

‘Rainforest Butterflies’ recreates this fleeting sight for BD: is LIT. Hundreds of butterflies glow brightly, shifting from blue to rich turquoise. Listen carefully and you might hear sounds from the Amazon Rainforest.

Created by Anne Bennett, an artist whose practice is rooted in making the invisible visible, her artwork highlights not only beauty but fragility, encouraging us to look closer at what we stand to lose if these ecosystems are not protected.
