Frederic Cliffe: Bradford’s Forgotten Composer poster

About

A unique musical event celebrating the story and songs of a briefly famous, but little remembered, Bradford-born composer.

In 1889, Frederic Cliffe rose to overnight fame when his first symphony was a sensational success. But just a few years later, despite writing several popular songs and featuring at the Proms, he had disappeared into obscurity.

His songs have lain unsung for over 100 years. But now, following new research by a local amateur musician, they will be heard in public once more at this unique musical event - at the church where he began his musical career.

The concert will include a telling of Cliffe's fascinating story, including in the words of the people who knew him and from the newspapers of the time. Hear how he rose to prominence and his role in inspiring musicians for generations to come.

This concert is generously supported by The John Ireland Trust.....for reasons that will be explained during the concert!
